Religious observances in 2026

Dates marked May vary are confirmed as soon as the authority for your country announces them, and a subscribed calendar updates the entry it already holds rather than gaining a second one. How we keep these dates right.

Jewish and Islamic days begin at sunset on the preceding evening. Where that applies, the evening is shown, because a booking made for the Gregorian day alone misses the part of the observance people most often need time off for.

What we do not yet cover

Nothing, at present. Every observance in the calendar is computed rather than declared a gap. That will not last — the list was five long and has been worked through one at a time, and it will grow again as we add traditions. When something cannot be computed honestly it is listed here with the reason, rather than filled in with a plausible guess.

What varies by country, and what does not

Two things move. Jewish festivals run an extra day outside the land of Israel, so Passover is seven days there and eight elsewhere. Islamic festivals depend on when a local authority accepts the new moon: the Gulf follows the Umm al-Qura calendar, bodies such as Diyanet in Türkiye apply an astronomical criterion instead and can land a day earlier, and countries that wait for a sighting fix the date only a day or two beforehand.

Everything else here — Easter in both computations, the Hindu festivals, the Bahá’í holy days — resolves to the same day everywhere, and we do not pretend otherwise. Nor do we apply a fixed offset to sighting countries. That would be a guess dressed as a rule, so those dates are marked as liable to vary and are replaced with the confirmed date once the authority announces it.
